The TEMPA sauna bus at dusk on the shore of Bray Lake

The UK’s only sauna bus.

A wood-fired sauna in an old library bus, a cold plunge, and Bray Lake on the doorstep. Between Maidenhead and Windsor.

Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30am to 4pm · Sessions from £10 · 4.9 on Google

A library bus that still serves its community, now with a wood-fired stove and a lake on the doorstep. Sit in the heat, step into the cold, breathe.

Real fire, not a heater

Heated by a wood-burning stove, not an electric heater. Soft, deep heat and the sound of the fire.

Never more than eight

Every session is capped at eight, so there is always room on the bench and time to settle.

The lake at the door

The cold plunge is always there. Before 10am, a dip in Bray Lake is part of your booking.

How it works

The ritual

01

Heat

Up to fifteen minutes on the wooden benches. Let the stove do the work.

02

Cold

Step out into the cold plunge. Before 10am, the lake is yours too.

03

Breathe

Sit by the water for a while and let your heart rate settle.

04

Repeat

Go round again, as many times as your session allows.

Bring swimwear, two towels (one to sit on), a water bottle and sliders. There are changing rooms by the bus, more changing and hot showers in the lake’s clubhouse, and a café and toilets on site. Arrive ten minutes early. Over-16s only.

Your first visit

Never done this before?

You don’t need to know anything. Sit in the heat for as long as feels good; five minutes is plenty to start. Step out and cool off in the plunge, the lake before 10am, or just the fresh air. Sit by the water for a bit, then go again when you’re ready. There’s no right way to do it.

Come on your own or bring someone. Open sessions are shared, so you’ll be on the bench with up to seven others. Say hello or keep to yourself, either’s fine. There’s always one of us on the bus, so if you’re unsure about anything, just ask.

The sauna usually sits between 70 and 80°C, and can reach 90°C depending on the time of day and the session. Not sure how long to book? An hour gives you time for a few rounds without rushing.

Our story

Who’s behind the bus

Hi, I’m Dan. In 2024 I bought an old library bus and turned it into a wood-fired sauna. It spent its first life helping communities, and I wanted its second to do the same.

Now it’s parked on the shore of Bray Lake every weekend, and there’s always one of us on the bus. We clean it at the end of every day: the benches are washed down, and the plunge is emptied, jet-washed and sanitised.

If you’ve got a question, just ask. You’ll get me.
