Good questions
Everything people ask before their first visit. Can’t see yours? Send Dan a message below.
I’ve never done this. What happens?
Nothing complicated, and nobody minds if it’s your first time. Sit in the heat for as long as feels good; five minutes is plenty to start. Then cool off in the cold plunge, or in the lake if it’s before 10am, and sit by the water for a bit before going again.
Go slowly, start with short rounds, and take a break whenever you need one.
Can I come on my own?
Of course. Open sessions are shared, so you’ll be on the bench with up to seven others. Say hello or keep to yourself, either’s fine.
Will someone be there?
Always. There’s someone from TEMPA on the bus for every session, so if it’s your first time, just ask and we’ll show you what to do.
Do I need to book?
Yes, always. Every session is booked online in advance and capped at eight people, so booking is the only way to be sure of a place.
How long are sessions and what do they cost?
30, 60 or 90 minutes: £10, £18 or £26, with the sauna and cold plunge included. An hour is a good first visit. See all sessions and prices.
How hot is the sauna?
Usually between 70 and 80°C, though it can reach 90°C depending on the time of day and the session. Around 75°C is the sweet spot for a longer session: hot enough for a proper sweat, and more comfortable than 90°C.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, two towels (one to sit on, one for after), a water bottle and sliders. Leave valuables at home or in the car, and keep your phone out of the sauna; the heat isn’t kind to it.
Where do I change? Are there showers?
There are changing rooms right by the bus, and more changing with hot showers in the lake’s clubhouse.
Can I swim in the lake?
Yes, before 10am: a dip in the lake from 8:30am to 10am is part of your booking. Longer lake swims are run separately by Bray Lake Watersports. It’s a working watersports centre, so keep an eye out for paddleboarders and windsurfers.
What if the weather’s bad?
We’re open rain or shine. A cold, grey day is one of the best times for a sauna: the heat feels even better.
What are quiet sessions?
From Saturday 7 November, sessions between 10am and midday are quiet: no talking please, respect the calm of the space. Same prices. If you’d like to chat, book before 10am or after midday.
Can we come as a group?
Yes. Group Afternoons are for four to eight of you: an hour together, starting between midday and 3pm, £14 each (usually £18) with the code AFTERNOONCREW. It’s running for a limited time. For the whole bus to yourselves, see private hire.
Is there an age limit?
Sessions are for over-16s. 16 and 17-year-olds are welcome with an adult, one per adult.
Who should check with a GP first?
If you’re pregnant, have a heart or circulation condition, take medication, or aren’t sure about heat, please check with your GP before booking.
Is the bus accessible?
We’re sorry, the bus isn’t wheelchair accessible. If you have any other question about access, send us a message below and we’ll help if we can.
How do you keep it clean?
We clean the bus at the end of every day. The benches are washed down, and the plunge is emptied, jet-washed and sanitised.
How do I cancel or reschedule?
There are only eight places on the bus, so a late cancellation is hard to fill. That’s why open sessions (up to four people) are non-refundable, but you can move your booking once if you ask more than 48 hours before.
For private hire and bookings of more than four, you get a refund (minus a 2.5% bank fee) if you cancel more than 14 days before. After that it’s non-refundable, though we’ll try to move it for you.
Full details are in our terms.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, for any amount. They arrive by email straight away and last twelve months. See gift cards.
Where are you, and is there parking?
At Bray Lake Watersports, Monkey Island Lane, Bray SL6 2EB, with parking on site. It’s under 10 minutes from Maidenhead and 10 from Windsor.
